An excellent condition copy of Stevie Wonder’s classic 1976 album ‘Songs in the key of life’. This ambitious 21-track work comprises two 12” vinyl LPs and a 33rpm 7” single containing 4 additional tracks, along with an LP size 24-page sepia tinted booklet of lyrics and credits. This highly influential hit album contains several of Stevie’s best known songs of the mid-70s, such as I wish, Sir Duke, As, Pastime paradise and Isn’t she lovely.
The track listing is as follows:
Love’s in need of love today / Have a talk with God / Village ghetto land / Contusion / Sir Duke / I wish / Knocks me off my feet / Pastime paradise / Summer soft / Ordinary pain / Isn’t she lovely / Joy inside my tears / Black man / I am singing / If it’s magic / As Another star / Saturn / Ebony eyes / All day sucker / Easy goin’ evening.
The album’s gatefold sleeve and booklet are in excellent condition throughout, with one minor spine crease and only a bare minimum of marks (too small to show on the listing photos). This is a Portuguese made edition of the album (cat. no. IM 46001) but its sound is, to my ears, as good as a typical British or American edition. All printed material is in English.
I have owned this copy of the album from new and it has been played only a small number of times, and thereafter has been carefully stored for some 35 years. It is effectively therefore in almost new condition. The two 12” vinyl LPs are in pristine condition, with no scratches, marks or scuffs whatsoever visible. I have listened to parts of the album recently and can confirm that the LPs play perfectly, with only the minimum of background surface noise (typical of an LP from that era).
The 4-track 7” EP, however, due to the limitations of the format, has slightly more surface noise. There is a surface blemish on one of these tracks (All day sucker) but because this is a funky up-tempo track any damage is hardly audible. The EP will require a centre-hole adapter in order to be played on a turntable.
If sent through the post, the album will be very carefully packaged, but to minimise any risk collection would also be welcome (near Church Stretton, south Shropshire).
