This handsome and very rare LP from Urania Records (URLP 7100, US pressing, yellow label, mono) features one of the more elusive titles from this label’s catalog, that of Ottorino Respighi’s Concerto Gregoriano, recorded circa 1952 with violinist Kurt Stiehler, conductor Ernest Borsamsky, and the Symphony Orchestra of Radio Leipzig. This was the work’s debut on LP (there exists a 1943 wartime recording on Polydor with violinist Paul Richartz).

Stiehler proves a commanding soloist, and Borsamsky (whose records are equally rare) provides echt accompaniment.

Incidentally, the striking cover art was executed by Robert Galster. There are superb liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Marguerite G. Butler, printed in English only.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the front laminated jacket is VERY GOOD. The only real flaws concern mnor wear at corners and discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no owners' markings, seamsplits, bends, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
