Description

This is a true first release of the rare DLP-1 10" LP.
From the liner notes: "The Strings and Keys were originally a trio playing around Los Angeles in 1942 which included Spaulding Givens, piano, and Charles Mingus, bass (as you hear them in this album), with the addition of Louis Spikener, guitar. The trio broke up for various reasons and Givens joined Oscar Pettiford while Mingus went with Lionel Hampton's aggregate."
"When Spaulding and Charles met again in 1951, they cut several experimental sides with a duo of Strings and Keys under the supervision of Richard Bock. Nothing was ever done with the recordings until they were recently acquired by Debut Records and played for various musicians and record collectors. They were met with such enthusiasm on the part of all who heard them that it is actually by request that Debut has released sex of the best sides in this LP album so that they may be heard for the first time by the general public."
Condition on this is a solid VG. See the pix. There's a previous price sticker ($1.00!) on the cover and a penned ownership signature. The top seam is split almost all the way, the bottom about halfway. The record itself looks very good. Not sure if this comes across in the photo, but it looks very clean. Starting the bid at a reasonable $50.00.
