Description
Howdy, you are looking at a misprinted version of Sublime's classic first album 40oz To Freedom on a very nice looking cranberry red vinyl. This is a double LP, I've listened all the way through and there are no skips whatsoever and the only noticeable surface noise came from a scuff on side A that creates a intermittent pop during the title track and Smoke Two Joints. Aside from that the vinyl plays like a gem. The gatefold sleeve is in decent shape with the exception of some minor splits along the top seam which I've done my best to photograph and is included in the pictures above. The cover still looks beautiful and the paper sleeves inside are in good shape as well except for an teeny tiny little tear in the top of the sleeve for disc two, but it's pretty insignificant, I only mention it because I believe in full disclosure.
I've done a little research on this pressing and haven't come up with any solid answers, but I'll tell you what I know. The sleeve has the catalogue number ER-2002-16, which according to discogs.com points to the cranberry vinyl repressing of the album, although the site doesn't mention anything about the misprints present on my version which I will break down below:
The actual tracklisting you will hear when you play the album is as follows:
Side A
waiting for my ruca
40oz. to freedom
smoke two joints
we're only gonna die
don't push
5446/ball and chain
Side B
badfish
let's go get stoned
new thrash
scarlet begonias
live at e's
d.j.s
Side C
chica me tipo
right back
what happened
new song
ebin
Side D
date rape
hope
KRS-one
river of babylon
thanks
For sides A & B on the first disc the actual tracklistings match the ones printed directly on each side of the record and on the paper sleeve the vinyl is in. On sides C & D we see the error. On the sticker on the actual record and the paper sleeve the tracklist includes Date Rape at the end of Side C after Ebin, so there are six songs listed but you can clearly see only five on that side and on Side D the track Date Rape is actually the first track despite the paper sleeve and sticker on the record reading the tracklist on Side D as: Hope, KRS-one, and River of Babylon.
That by itself is strange enough but the gatefold sleeve that houses both records also has a strange tracklisting on the back that doesn't match up with the actual tracklisting on the records. The listing of the tracks on the vinyl sleeve BUT NOT THE ACTUAL TRACKLISTING OF THE VINYL (so there's no confusion) is as follows:
Side A
waiting for my ruca
get out
40oz to freedom
smoke two joints
we're all gonna die for our arrogance
don't push
Side B
5446/ball and chain
badfish
lets go get stoned
new thrash
scarlet begonias
live at e's
Side C
d.j.s
chica me tipo
right back
what happened
new song
ebin
Side D
date rape
hope
KRS-one
thanks
The most notable differences on the tracklist on the back of the gatefold is the inclusion of the track Get Out which was an early single included on some pressing of this record but not on this one. Also there is the difference in the name We're All Gonna Die for Our Arrogance listed on the gatefold while the paper sleeve and record list the track as simply We're Only Gonna Die. Initially I thought perhaps I had the vinyl and gatefold from two different pressings mismatched here but after looking up the catalogue number and seeing that it matched up with the only cranberry vinyl pressing I was just more confused.
Regardless this is an odd copy of the great Sublime's first LP and I'm listing it for a low starting price and including no reserve, so it goes for whatever the person who wants it most is willing to let go of for it. Shipping should be around four or five dollars within the continental United States, I am willing to ship worldwide but understand that if you order from overseas the shipping will be more and I'm not sure how much. So I'll contact the winning bidder ASAP with all the necessary information. I only accept PAYPAL, but I think everyone has that by now.
Good luck and I hope this record goes to a good home, god knows I don't really want to let it go, spend wisely people...
