Description
From my personal collection. Bought new. Cutout notch of upper corner. More or less a new record and sleeve. I checked this LP in several tracks, and although a lot of it sounds "Mint", I am giving it a "Mint Minus". There are a few pops and clicks (probably due to the pressing rather than wear).
A little digression on record grading: decades ago I sold vinyl via Goldmine magazine. As some sellers did, I would have both a visual and audio grading. The records I am selling on eBay, unless specifically noted in the description, are free of any visually-detectable damage like scratches, scuffed surfaces, warps, and the like. I do not have one of the modern record cleaning machines, but do/did religiously clean them with DiscWasher brushes whenever played. That being said, a cleaning with an electric cleaner can often clean up the sound on decades-old vinyl.
Thus, my record grade is solely on the basis of surface noise. But I do not play them all the way through; there's not enough time in the day! If a record I sell you has a skip that I missed, I will happily accept a return. Sometimes a too-low tracking force is used, which can cause a skip, as some are under the impression this will preserve the surface. Interestingly, a too-low tracking force can increase wear on the grooves; among other reasons dynamic passages can make the stylus ride up on the sides of the groove. Depending on the tonearm and cartridge used, I recommend a tracking force between 1.2 and 1.9 grams. As for anti-skate, the rule of thumb is to use the same setting as the tracking force. For more accuracy, one can use a blank area of a record to check the anti-skate, as sometimes the optimal amount is not the same as the tracking force. A big factor is the quality and dynamics of the tonearm being used.
Do not mistake static discharge through the cartridge for pops and clicks due to debris in the grooves.
I will give an already-played record the highest rating ("mint") unless it is absolutely pristine. Many of my "near mint" or "excellent" items might be rated by other sellers as a full "mint".
I always combine shipping. New items, not exclusively vinyl, will appear each week if the stars align, so check my listings frequently.
