Description

Super rare first pressing vinyl copy of Led Zeppelin IV; early red and plum label with Peter Grant credit, Led Zeppelin printed on the bottom of the label and inverted feather on side two.

Rare because Polydor stickered over the the inner labels (with Peter Grant credit) after alleged protestations from Jimmy Page after the initial release and Grant's name was later removed.  They later printed 'Led Zeppelin towards to the top of the label and the feather on side 2 was later printed the right way up.

The first pressings also had publishing credits accidentally omitted; below the song listing on either label, it reads 'Kinney Music Ltd' only - later red and plum labels show the updated 'Kinney Music/Superhype Music Inc'.  This copy has 'Kinney Music Ltd' printed below the song listings (see photos).

The earliest printings also have 'Misty Mountain Hop' spelled correctly - during the correction process, 'hop' was changed to 'top' - it's a common misconception that the misspelt top labels are the rarest; it is in fact labels with the correctly spelt 'hop' label that is the rarest.  This label shows the title as 'Misty Mountain Hop'.

So there we have it, this copy of Led Zeppelin 4 is rare - however, it does have issues.  Please read carefully before bidding.  If you want a mint copy, this is not it.  I have taken recordings of side 1 and two for you to listen to prior to buying.  The links to the files are here:

The gatefold sleeve has a tear to the bottom right hand side (shown in photos) - previous owner wrote his name on the cover in ink.

The inner buff sleeve is dog eared, and has a closed tear at the top (shown in photos).  It has come apart on two sides.  The previous owner wrote sleeve notes next to the tracks (see photos)

The vinyl itself has some surface scratches but does not jump - it does pop and crackle.  Please listen carefully - if you need me to email any of the files over, let me know.  If you have any questions, just drop me a line - I'll be happy to help.
