Description
This is a copy of Syd Barrett’s “Barrett” album on Harvest records from 1970, record number SHSP 4007. This is the rare first pressing of the album with the laminated flip back sleeve with no EMI logo on the green record labels. The run out grooves say this is an A 1-G / B 1-G. The album also comes with its original Harvest inner sleeve advertising other records. I’ve tried to show the condition of the record and sleeve in the photos and there are some small folds to the edge of the laminate with some marks to the front of the cover. There is some wear in the top right corner where I think a sticker has been removed and this has worn through the laminate. There’s a smaller mark on the bottom left corner. The rear of the sleeve has some wear on the opening edge which looks like from where the cover has been near a wet surface or where water has got into a plastic cover. The rear cover has discoloured slightly which is common on these non-laminated rear sleeves. I like the history records sometimes reveal and it’s nice to see that this record was once 75p! The spine of the record is fully intact with only a couple of laminate creases visible. The inner sleeve has yellowed with age and there are some marks which I’ve tried to show in the photographs. The record itself looks like it has a sellotape name label removed at some stage on Side 1 but this hasn’t ripped off or further damaged the label. There are some light marks to the vinyl and a larger white scratch mark to Maisie at the end of Side 1. I’ve played the record through without any jumps or skips and despite the marks it still retains a strong stereo sound! There’s some noticeable clicks and crackle at the start of Side 1 and lighter clicks between later tracks and quieter parts songs as the record progresses. The scratch at the end of Side 1 can be heard as Pops for the first 30 seconds or so of Maisie. Side 2 starts with a similar crackle but this also gets quieter as the record progresses. I’d say this record is still in good condition using the Record Collector guidance which says “the record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc”. I think it’s below the very good condition definition which says “the record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable”. Postage for the record will be £6.50 delivered in the UK. This record starts at only 99p with no reserve! I will mail the record in a strong cardboard box cover with a waterproof plastic cover outside wrapped firmly with parcel tape. I always send the buyer a photo of the parcel plus a tracking or postage reference number so they know what to look out for or to help me investigate if there’s any problems.
