ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome 3LP set from Odeon (O 80753 / 80754 / 80755, German Electrola pressing, green labels, mono - no stereo edition exists) features the great Henryk Szeryng in magnificent accounts of Bach?s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin BWV 1001-1006, his first integral cycle recorded in Paris during December 1952. Were these the only recordings Szeryng made, they would have sealed his reputation as one of the finest violinists of the last century - truly, these are landmarks in the Bach discography.
Szeryng's unfailingly beautiful tone and purity of intonation is allied to a supreme sense of architecture and a penetrating imagination. Even if you have another favorite set, there are so many felicitous touches and moments of insight throughout Szeryng's cycle that it stands as one of the most majestic and highly individual accounts ever recorded - a landmark in these works' discographies. Moreover, he is given superbly realistic and warm sound.

Each individual jacket contains liner notes by Werner Schmidt-Liedtke, provided in both German and English. The striking cover design is uncredited alas.
CONDITION: PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jackets is near-MINT throughout. There is some minuscule wear at corners and very mild shelf wear, but that is all. There are no seam splits, bends, owners? markings, or other defects, and the albums remain solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive in appearance ? overall, these rate as a truly fine collector's copies.
The condition of the 3 LPs is near-MINT throughout. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really these are very fine copies and playback is truly superb across all 6 sides. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this set. Overall, these rate as truly fine collector's copies.
