This handsome LP from Odeon (O 80753 / OLAX 1047, German Electrola pressing, green label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Henryk Szeryng’s magnificent accounts of Bach’s Sonata for Solo Violin No. 1 in G minor BWV 1001 and his Partita for Solo Violin No. 1 in B minor BWV 1002, from his complete cycle recorded in Paris in December 1952.

Milstein's unfailingly beautiful tone and purity of intonation is allied to a supreme sense of architecture and a penetrating imagination. Even if you have another favorite set, there are so many felicitous touches and moments of insight throughout Milstein's cycle that it stands as one of the most majestic and highly individual accounts ever recorded – a landmark in these works' discographies. Moreover, he is afforded warm and vivid sound.

Incidentally, there are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Werner Schmidt-Liedtke, printed in both German and English. The front cover design is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears almost nearly as new – a superb collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
