Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome LP from Philips (SAL 3571 / 835 357 LY, UK pressing, plum/silver label – ED1, stereo) features Henryk Szeryng's high-octane accounts of Sibelius' Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 47 and Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor Op. 63, both sumptuously recorded in the warm acoustics of Wembley Town Hall, London, during 22-24 July 1965, with Gennady Rozhdestvensky conducting the London Symphony Orchestra.
Szeryng's magnificent tone is almost tangible and, in the Sibelius, the LSO shimmer with an authentically Nordic beauty that is quite breathtaking. The Prokofiev is no less fine, with the great Polish virtuoso wholly inside the composer's unique soundworld – truly superb!
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is slight bumping at corners and minor discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the jacket remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a lovely collector's copy.
The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.
