T2 – It’ll All Work Out In Boomland; this is the original UK early issue of the classic & very rare 1970 Decca LP (stereo). Catalogue No. Decca SKL 5050

I have owned this record since I bought it new in 1970; I saw T2 give a fantastic performance at that time and bought the LP soon afterwards.

The vinyl itself is immaculate – it has been handled with care & played on audiophile equipment, always stored in its original Decca “blue border” (stereo) inner sleeve. Both sides still have the original lustre, without scuffing or scratches; there are no telltale “spider” spindling marks around the centre hole, indicating only light use.

It’s been unplayed for a good number of years and I doubt if there is a better condition copy of this original pressing, regardless of the price tag. I played the LP on high-end audio equipment recently and the sound is very clean & powerful within the constraints of the original recording characteristics.

The four songs on the album all have a great dynamic sweep, from fade-ins and acoustic passages to heavy, multi-tracked guitar workouts – the whole album is quite breathtaking and it’s an immaculate pressing, even without noticeable surface noise in the quiet sections.

The 1970 issue Decca poly-lined blue-bordered inner sleeve is very clean and without significant creases. It has no stains or tears, no writing or faded colour - the printed “record & equipment care” text notes on both sides is still strong & clear.

I am grading the outer sleeve at only VG+ because the “teenage me” saw fit to colour in the Decca logos and some of the text on the rear sleeve. Otherwise, the sleeve is in excellent condition, retaining its full colour on Peter Thaine’s superb illustration.

The unlaminated sleeve has a very narrow spine, but it still clearly retains the LP artist, title & catalogue number. All the edges are straight and there is minimal creasing.

There is slight scuffing of the upper left and lower right front corners. The photo gallery will also show you the slight surface damage to the black & white printed (upper) mid-section on the rear of the sleeve (caused only by many years of storage – perhaps by a slight adhesion of that part of the sleeve to its clear plastic protective sleeve).

In all the 45+ years since I bought this LP I can’t recall seeing another copy – the album only sold in small quantity on its none of my friends have ever heard of T2; they are truly one of the legendary lost bands of the classic early 70s rock era.

"It'll all work out in Boomland" was T2's debut album, released in 1970 on Decca. T2 comprised of singer/drummer/composer Peter Dunton, the then 17-year-old prodigy Keith Cross on guitars, keyboards & harmony vocals and the excellent Bernard Jinks on bass guitar & harmony vocals.

Cross certainly belies his age with some truly mercurial playing – fast plectrum work, hard power chords alternating with cool jazz picking, plenty of bent notes and some thunderous and complex riffs.

I saw the 16-year old Gary Moore ripping it up in the superb blues-rock trio Skid Row in that same golden period, and I’d rate Keith Cross as just as exciting in live performance as the late, great Mr. Moore.

Peter Dunton’s vocals are quite light & laid back, contrasting well with the fast & often busy drumming and regular sections of guitar mayhem that will get the listener’s pulses racing!

“Boomland” is one of those classic heavy “proto-prog-rock” albums that will hold attention with its kaleidoscope of melodies and riffs using plenty of overdubs of guitars, brass, piano and mellotron. The band originated all the music, with some additional arrangements by Peter Johnson.
