TAICONDEROGA: Whitchi Tai To/Speakin' My Mind (UK BEACON 45 BEA 143)
For auction an extremely rare UK copy of a rightly famous Psych screamer. While European copies of this wild fuzz guitar classic crop up fairly regularly original UK pressings on the Beacon label most certainly do not. Here is a scarce opportunity to own one.
The disc is in genuine VG+ to Excellent condition with just a couple of scuffs on the Speakin' My Mind side but nothing drastic and certainly no repeating scratches or (God Forbid) jumps. Otherwise the vinyl is rich, shiny and clean. Whitchi Tai To in particular has barely a hairline worth noting. A remarkable copy for being over a half a century old.
The labels are still boldly bright black and white with a small patch of minor discolouring on the A side and, bizarrely, a very faint "mum' written to the top left of the centre hole. (see picture) Quite why a 'Mum' in 1969 would have had such a searing crazed slice of psych in their record collection boggles the mind!
The only part that is showing true age is the original Beacon label bag with various creases and a few rips on one side. However it would be shame to part the disc from sleeve after all this time so it is included along with a replacement. Amazingly, according to a little sticker on the bag, it seems like it was originally bought in a Tesco's! Mums and Tesco's! Two things that seemingly couldn't be further away from the explosive psych noise this much sought after record contains.
Anyway, freaky wig out collectors will know exactly what this is and how unlikely another UK original will surface any time soon. Good luck with your bids.
