Description

Rare set of all three LPs of the famed Chinese opera, Taking Tiger Mountain by Storm, performed in 1970 by the Peking Opera Troupe and released on the China Record Company label, DM-6178, DM-6179, & DM-6180. This was one of only a handful of such plays allowed during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and was officially sanctioned by Mao. This was the first recording ever made of the work, featuring Tung Hsiang-ling as Yang Tzu-jung. Very rare to find all three records together, and even rarer to find them all in such good condition. All three discs are excellent and play just beautifully. These discs are almost never in such lovely listening shape. Really they play almost perfectly. These Chinese pressings from this time often sound a bit noisy even when they are new and unplayed, but these copies sound near perfect. All three covers are in very good condition as well, with minor edgewear and light cornerwear, but really unusually good. This is a top set, hard to beat.
