Onetime frontman of new wave pioneers Talking Heads, David Byrne has just played a much-talked-about show in London as we write this and it certainly reminded the world of the band's unique stage presence and aptitude for combining performance art with sound. Tentative Decisions: Demos & Live offers an equally illuminating glimpse into the band's formative years. Chris Frantz and Byrne, who first met at Rhode Island School of Design, along with their college band The Artistics, serve up early versions of what would become Talking Heads classics here, all recorded in Frantz's Benefit Street apartment during the spring of 1974. The LP includes embryonic takes of 'Warning Sign' and 'Psycho Killer' that reveal the creativity and angular energy that would define their future sound. It's a fascinating document of a band on the cusp of reinventing new wave and art-rock.
