RARE ...Original 1973 first pressing on the legendary German "OHR" label in laminated gatefold. Nothing like the later formulated (sequencers) Tangerine Dream soundtrack layers - ATEM finds the crew experimenting with adventurous 'out-there' space-music - a style they became famous for when there were only a few bands pioneering in similar during the early 'Krautrock' daze (see "Limbus 4" "Annexus Quam" and others). The first 4 Tangerine Dream "Ohr" records are quite trippy, reflecting ominous dark sci-fi adventures....
Atem is Tangerine Dream's Mellotron album which figures prominently in several long stretches of music. In addition to the Mellotron, there are some unexpectedly aggressive passages on Atem — the opening parts of the long title track and "Whan" come to mind here — which combine to give the album an alien, sinister feel that is more pronounced than the lethargic creepiness that often pervaded previous albums.
The dark side of Tangerine Dream. In this recording, they summarized all previous experiments with sound. The result is stunning, and there is no doubt why John Peel, a BBC DJ decided to promote a completely unknown electronic group back in early 1973. Creepy and dark music. Best consumed at night, on headphones. The title track contains all elements that some collectors appreciate in the oldest vintage Tangerine Dream, namely: creepy, monumental tones, the feel of space and distance, danse macabre of these early analog instruments, no conventionality and lack of musical conformism.
