TCHAIKOVSKY / ANSERMET / L'ORCHESTRE DE LA SUISSE ROMANDE - " SWAN LAKE ", The Decca Record Company Ltd (SXL 2107-8) Stereo, 1959.
Very rare, 1959, English first issue/pressing Decca 2LP set all with the grooved wideband labels with the "Original Recording By" label text and laminated gatefold sleeve with inner booklet.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeves (the original inner sleeves have also been retained and included in the auction - see photo).
CONDITION:
VINYL = EX- (No deep scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, only the lightest spindle trails, etc. In normal daylight the vinyl appears perfectly clean, under a bright grading lamp I can make out some very light paper scuffs and a couple of extremely faint surface marks - although these are purely visual and during playback, these very slight cosmetic flaws don't correspond directly to any audible defects.
On playback, there is some faint surface noise during the silent run-in (in the pressing) which disappears as soon as the music starts. It plays really well - strong, clean and generally without interuptions. Although the slight cosmetic flaws don't seem to tally with any audible defects, as I let the record play in it's entirety there was the odd accasional very faint background click here and there. But these occured just a handful of times and were far too faint to intrude on the music.
Overall, not quite mint, but still a really good servicable copy of a very rare record for somebody out there to play and enjoy. Plus, it should sell for a more affordable price and sounds so much better than a sterile CD re-issue.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = GOOD- (No defacing, huge rips or creases... However, this sleeve has seen much better days/ Very worn around all edges and as a result is suffering from a lot of delamination. Also, the previous owner has tried to fix this with tape which over time has has badly stained the white inside of the gatefold and left some residue on the outside. The inner booklet is there and still held in, but only by one staple - see photos for further clarification)
