TCHAIKOVSHY / SILVESTRI / PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA - " SYMPHONY NO.5 IN E MINOR " ", HMV/EMI Records Ltd (ASD 261) Stereo..
Very rare, English HMV LP - this is the rare first edition with the cream and gold labels and the laminated sleeve with scalloped flip-backs - see photos.
Pressed in England.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and then put in a fresh new poly-lined inner sleeve (the original inner sleeve has also been retained and included in the auction - see photo).
CONDITION:
VINYL = EXCELLENT (No scratches, no groove damage, no distortion, only light spindle trails, etc. In normal daylight the vinyl appears perfectly clean, under a bright grading lamp I can make out some paper scuffs and a couple of extremely faint hairline marks - although these are purely visual and during playback, these very slight cosmetic flaws don't correspond directly to any audible defects.
On playback, there is some faint surface noise during the silent run-in (in the pressing) which disappears as soon as the music starts. It plays really well - strong, clean and without interuptions. Just to be clear, this recording does start with a very quiet section for the first couple of minutes - during this section there is some faint audible surface noise in the pressing from time to time. This is not surprise though as this section of the recording is as quiet as I've ever heard pressed on a record.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)
SLEEVE = V.G. (No rips, tears, defacing, etc. But suffers a lot of were to the edges and corners and some delamination front and back, particularly in proximity to the open edge. The back is definitely no longer a bright white either - see photos for further clarification)
