Background -
Ludwig Hoffmann received his artistic training from Bruno Hinze-Reinhold, Paul Weingarten, Richard Rössler and Hans-Otto Schmidt-Neuhaus. He took master classes with Marguerite Long and Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli among others. In 1947 he won the Weimar Liszt Prize, and further prizes followed in the next few years. In 1954 he started a busy concert career around the world. Numerous recordings that he recorded for various radio stations are still waiting to be rediscovered. His work is poorly documented on vinyl, since at the beginning of his career at Telefunken, he was not permanently under contract with any of the major labels. The highly virtuoso pianist was a frequent duo partner of Ingrid Haebler. In addition to standard works, he also performed rarely performed pieces by modern composers. His Liszt performances set new standards of piano playing, and is still worth listening to today. From 1970 to 1991 he was a professor at the Munich Conservatory. His successor is Margarita Höhenrieder. He was a jury member in over 25 renowned international competitions, including the Chopin competition in Warsaw, the Liszt competition in Budapest, and competitions in St. Petersburg, Montreal, Sydney, Bolzano and Geneva. He also led master classes in Maryland, Munich, Rotterdam and Weimar. Ludwig Hoffmann was a member of the European Piano Teacher Association (EPTA) for many years and, as an opponent of Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, decisively shaped it as a founding member. CONDITION Details:
The LP jacket is in near mint minus overall condition. The jacket is tight and clean, with NO seam splits. It does however has a bit of bending which is typical of TELEFUNKEN jackets of this vintage. Otherwise, the corners are solid and the left and right seams are STITCHED. The colors on the jacket are sharp and clean and it is laminated on both the front and back, with just light shelf wear along the seams and corners, nothing serious - see pictures with this listing as they are of the actual item being offered.
The LP is in near mint minus overall condition! The vinyl has no serious marks. It has some light spider marks (caused by sliding the LP in and out of the inner sleeve). These types of marks may sound, depending on the sensitivity of your audio gear...some extraneous sound is inevitable and should be expected for a vintage LP. This LP retains much of the original gloss and sheen! There are NO serious spindle marks on the record labels either.A Short Note About LP GRADING -
- Mint = Only used for sealed items.
- Near Mint = Virtually flawless in every way.
- Near Mint Minus = Item has some minor imperfections, some audible.
- Excellent = Item obviously played and enjoyed with some noise.
- Very Good Plus = Many more imperfections which are noticeable and obtrusive.
For best results, always thoroughly clean your LPs before playing them.
LPs can be audiophile quality pressings (any collector of fine MFSL, half speeds, direct to discs, Japanese/UK pressings etc., can attest to the difference a quality pressing can make to an audio system).
