A BREAKDOWN OF THE ARTIST/S :-

Lead guitarist/vocalist Tom Verlaine (Born Thomas Miller, 13 December 1949, Mount Morris, New Jersey, USA) first worked with bass player Richard Hell (Born Richard Meyers, 2 October 1949, Lexington, Kentucky, USA) and drummer Billy Ficca in the early 70s as the Neon Boys. By the end of 1973, with the addition of rhythm guitarist Richard Lloyd, they reunited as Television. Early the following year they secured a residency at the Bowery club, CBGB's, and found themselves at the forefront of the New York new wave explosion. Conflicts between Verlaine and Hell led to the departure of the latter who later re-emerged with the Heartbreakers. Meanwhile, Television found a replacement bass player in Fred Smith from Blondie. The new line-up recorded the raw but arresting "Little Johnny Jewel", a tribute to Iggy Pop, for their own label, Ork Records. This led to their signing with Elektra Records for whom they recorded their debut album in 1977.

Marquee Moon was largely ignored in their homeland, but elicited astonished, ecstatic reviews in the UK. where it was applauded as one of rock's most accomplished debut albums. Verlaine's sneering, nasal vocal and searing, jagged twin guitar interplay with Lloyd were the hallmarks of Television's work, particularly on such stand-out tracks as "Torn Curtain", "Venus" and "Prove It'. Although the band looked set for a long and distinguished career, the follow-up, Adventure, was a lesser work and the quartet broke up in 1978. Both Verlaine and Lloyd subsequently pursued solo careers with mixed results. In November 1991, Verlaine, Lloyd, Smith and Ficca revived Television and spent the ensuing time rehearsing for a comeback album for Capitol Records. The quartet returned to Britain to appear at 1992"s Glastonbury Festival, and released their disappointing third album in October. They re-formed once again in 2001 for live dates.

THE HISTORY OF THE RECORD :- The album was ranked at 128th in Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".

In 2001, Uncut magazine wrote, "Television may have vowed to 'pull down the future', but no one knew they'd reinvent it. Proof that lightning can, indeed, strike itself."

In 2003, the year of the re-release, Rolling Stone gave the album 5 stars out of 5 and called it "one of the all-time classic guitar albums....Moon still shimmers with urban grime and psychedelic imagination." In the same year, Spin magazine wrote, "It's the first punk jam album and a thing of swooning, brawny loveliness." Entertainment Weekly, in the same year, gave it an A grade and called it "One of the era's masterworks, a multilayered thrill ride of interlocking stun-gun guitars and leader Tom Verlaine's nervous vocals." Q magazine also called it "a brutally stark, yet intricate weave of guitars and affectingly passionate vocals."

THE VINYL VISUALLY :- On initial inspection of this piece of vinyl I cannot see any areas of immediate concern. The vinyl sits perfectly flat on the turntable so there are no nasty warps to worry about. The vinyl still retains its just pressed quality, full of deep shine and lustre. I have only noted one light mark that does not not affect play. A lovely piece of vinyl. I would grade the look of the vinyl as easily an Excellent 

THE VINYL PLAY GRADED :- The playgrading of the vinyl reveals no lessening in the sound quality. It lives up to its visual grading. There is only extremely minimal surface noise, barely audible. What there is can be only heard on the run in and run out of tracks and extra extra quiet areas of the album. The sound quality is extremely high with a full dynamic range and very detailed sound. This album has been played carefully and stored well over the years. I would grade the audio playback as easily Excellent Plus condition. Barely played

THE SLEEVE FRONT CONDITION :- This is the very earliest 1st press non laminated sleeve. The front of the sleeve is free from writing, free from stickers or evidence of previously removed stickers. The sleeve reveals next to no ringwear. There are one or two creases evident, one in the top left corner and a few small spidery type creases about the spine. There is some corner wear on all 4 corners, quite lightish though. The colours are bright and crisp still. I would grade the front of the cover considering all of this as Very Good Plus condition.

THE SLEEVE REAR CONDITION :- The rear of the sleeve is free from writing, free from stickers or evidence of previously removed stickers. There are no creases on the rear of the sleeve and no ringwear. It pretty much mirrors the condition of the front of the sleeve with the same light creasing and seam wear, any ringwear is slightly more evident on this side but again barely noticeable I would grade the rear also as Very Good Plus condition.

THE LABEL SIDE ONE CONDITION :- Original Elektra label in excellent order free from stickers or writing and no damage at all, light signs if any of play around the spindle hole. Excellent Plus condition.

THE LABEL SIDE TWO CONDITION :- Original Elektra label in excellent order free from stickers or writing and no damage at all, light signs if any of play around the spindle hole. Excellent Plus condition.

THE SPINE CONDITION :- The writing on the spine is crystal clear, no spine splits at all just light signs of shelfwear in the two corners and at points along the length. Excellent condition

THE INNER SLEEVE CONDITION :- Bespoke inner in Excellent condition with no splits and just some very light handling creases

THE EXTRAS :- No extras were given with this album

HOW WE CLEAN YOUR RECORD :- 

We use a V.P.I. HW-16.5 record cleaning machine to clean your vinyl. "A highly recommended machine" as quoted by Stereophile magazine. This removes any excess dirt before playing

HOW WE PACKAGE YOUR RECORD :- 

Your record will be package very securely to minimise any risk of damage during transit. We remove the record from the outer sleeve unless asked not to do so. This helps to minimise the risk of seam spliting. We use a high quality record mailer which is designed to give superior protection for your vinyl record. We place stiffeners either side of the record for added protection. The album will also be placed in a 450 gram Poly outer sleeve for even extra added protection
