'Cricklewood Green'

FOURTH OR fifth album from this superb British blues boom outfit whose style had progressed and diversified enormously since their early output. Sounding more complex and authoritative than ever, the bands, musical platform and expanded to accommodate elements of psych, progressive rock and, natch, blues without compromising their purist approach.

Extended tracks like '50,000 Miles Beneath My Brain' no longer relied on extended guitar soloing to maximise effect but built upon the interaction of the entire band to create a wall of sound. In hind sight this was a smart move as it extended TYA's life span by several albums rather than steering themselves into a blues rock cul-de-sac. It's also an album that allows the rest of the band, sans Lee, to shine as individuals and in a sense as a whole. 'Sugar The Road' and 'Working On The Road' are great uniformed examples but its the colossal seven minute plus 'Love Like A Man' that really pulls out all the stops. Edited down to give them a hit single, the only one of their career, the track grows exponentially from the use of a simplistic yet devastating guitar riff which is as effective as the chorus itself. Arguably their greatest single (sic) achievement.

Original copies in great condition are very hard to find. It wasn't a particularly rare album but most copies were played to death. This one looks, feels, smells and sounds like it came out of the factory yesterday. A remarkable achievement considering its 37 years old.

Vinyl: Immaculate clean and shiny condition. A few spindle marks but no other signs of use. Grades as top MINT-!

Cover: Again, no signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated gatefold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is square, straight and unworn. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 35 years after release. Grades as MINT!
