'Stonedhenge'

THEY STARTED out as yet another British blues boom band, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Chicken Shack and Savoy Brown but by this, their thid album, they were taking on board influences from the burgeoning psychedelic and progressive rock scenes. Woodstock had cemented Alvin Lee's reputation as one of the world's finest guitarists, positioning him erroneously as a speed player rather than an all round technician and 'Stonedhenge' is a direct rebuff to that ill-fitting reputation.

Cautiously the album doesn't fully explore the blues rock path preferring instead to display a raft of excellent material. None the less, there is still room for a full compliment of mouth dropping solos and despite the stylistic diversity it is a remarkably cosmopolitan vista taking in everything from advant garde jazz to free form blues jamming. There is, however, still room for solid heavy 12 bar blues with the combustible and toe-tapping 'Here Me Calling'.

Funnily enough this particular Ten Years After album happens to be my personal favourite of their early work. The production (courtesy of Brit blues boom veteran Mike Vernon) focusses on stunning clarity whilst pulling several disparate styles together under one flag of conveniance. It really is a collosal and brilliant work.

Vinyl: Nice clean and shiny condition. Displays a few spindle marks and only extrenely minor signs of any use. Grades as top Ex+

Cover: Issued in a deluxe fully laminated gatefold cover. Absolutely no signs of use. Laminate displays 'as new' sheen - incredibly shiny and full gloss. Sharp corners - no dings, no bends, no split seams, no edge wear and no creases. Beautiful and impossible to find like this after 45 years. Grades as shop fresh MINT!

Inserts: Original blue Decca polythene lined inner sleeve.
