TERREA LEA -- Ask A Child / To Love Someone -- hard to find, original early-to-mid 1960's U.S. 45 single. Terrea Lea was a pioneering early 1960's Female Folk singer/songwriter in Los Angeles who released a handful of private press LP's and 45's, including a now highly sought-after 1968 album "Conversations With The Heart" recorded with Van Dyke Parks; she was also locally famous for running The Garret Coffee House from 1958 to 1971, one of L.A.'s longest-running Folk clubs which supported the early careers of Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and many others. This apparently-unknown Private Press 45 on the obscure YES label features two original Lea compositions (co-written with Garret regular Stacey LuBell), both moody Female Folk - Protest style songs with plaintive vocals and acoustic guitar. "Ask A Child" was included on her 1968 LP "Conversations With The Heart," so it's not clear whether Van Dyke Parks also plays on this 45 single version or not. Terrea Lea passed away early in 2013, leaving behind an impressive and still-underrated legacy in 1960's Folk music in Southern California. In generic sleeve.
