Context & Historical Notes

• In 1991, Should I Stay or Should I Go was reissued in the UK by CBS/Epic, boosted to #1 on the UK Singles Chart after featuring in a Levi’s advert.

• To make the release more contemporary, the B-side featured Rush, the then-current hit by Mick Jones’ Big Audio Dynamite II.

• White label test pressings like this were manufactured in very limited numbers (usually under 25 copies) for internal use by CBS/Epic and pressing plants, to check quality before full release.

• These rarely reached shops and were not commercially available.

Rarity

• Commercial pressings of the 1991 7” single are relatively common.

• White label test pressings, however, are scarce and typically only survive in small numbers from record company staff or pressing engineers.

• The handwritten sleeve markings (“The Clash” and matrix refs) are consistent with plant/test press procedures.
