THE AMBOY DUKES – Same ORIG Fontana LP / STL 5468 (UK, Stereo, 1967)
Happy to present this immensely rare 1st stereo UK press of the US Amboy Dukes debut LP featuring of course a young Ted Nugent.
The single format, front laminated flipback sleeve is great. Were it not for above average yellowing/toning to the rear panel it would grade a high EX. There’s only some small spine edge creases to the front laminate which remains very shiny and does not suffer from excessive rubbing. Excellent spine, somewhat compressed but with all text nicely visible. No real edge wear, no discernible ring impression. Very slight corner rubs to the opening edge. No writing, no splits, no tears, no scrapes. Lies nice and flat with no rippling or warping. Great 44 year old example. Grades EX- (Excellent Minus).
The original black/silver Fontana labels are in a superb condition looking close to mint. No rubbing, writing, residue or dirt. Very clean with vivid silver text and minimal spindle traces close in around the centre hole (2 or 3 plays?). Brilliant vintage 1967 labels!
The medium/heavy weight vinyl has survived incredibly well. The disc’s surfaces are a fine scuff per side away from being close to mint. There’s an ultra fine hairline to one side and a light scuff line to the other. Both marks are isolated, light and not long. Other than these and possibly some slight ‘bagrash’I can’t make out any other blemishes. Visually, this merits a position in most high grade collections and comes in at a true EX (Excellent). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENEDTO and except for 1 quickfire pop to ‘Baby Please Don’t Go’ plays absolutely superbly. Expect NO ticks, repeated clicks, crackle, hiss, distortion or loss of clarity. A great player and got to be a keeper for most people! LOOKS AND PLAYS LIKE A SELDOM TOUCHED RECORD.
Some good psychy stuff on here as well as the singalong ‘Let’s Go Get Stoned’. A portrait of Nugent as a young man, still willing to experiment.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means ‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
