·       THE BAND - MOONDOG MATINEE - ORIGINAL 1973 CAPITOL RECORDS STEREO LP SW-11214

·       ORIGINAL U.S. PRESSING

·       ORIGINAL 'BURGUNDY' CAPITOL LABEL, UNIQUE TO THIS TITLE. (THIS LABEL WAS IN WIDE USE ONLY MUCH LATER, IN THE LATE 1970'S AND EARLY 1980'S AND MAKES ITS FIRST APPEARANCE ON THIS ALBUM)

·       The bidders should note that this is a rare Bob Ludwig-mastered pressing of this album, with his initials “RL” (Robert Ludwig) etched in the trail-off vinyl of the disc. All the wonderful elements of Bob Ludwig’s trademark mastering style are here: incredible clarity and balanced channel separation, vivid and spacious “ambience” sound, as well as wide dynamic and frequency range of the sound spectrum.  As is almost always the case with Bob Ludwig’s masterings, the Bob Ludwig-mastered pressings of this album are CONSIDERABLY rarer than the regular, non-Ludwig copies of this album.

·       ORIGINAL, FIRST US PRESSING

·       THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, FIRST U.S. PRESSING; THIS IS NOT A REISSUE, AN IMPORT, OR A COUNTERFEIT PRESSING.

·       ORIGINAL, THIN CARDBOARD COVER (NO THICK CARDBOARD COVERS WERE EVER PRODUCED FOR THIS TITLE)

·       THIS IS THE RARE, ORIGINAL, WITHDRAWN (DELETED) VERSION OF THE COVER WITH THE "CABBAGETOWN CAFÉ" PAINTING ON FOLDED POSTER WHICH DOUBLES AS AN EXTERNAL COVER/SLEEVE

·       COVER HAS A NIFTY 'HYPE' (ADVERTISEMENT) STICKER STILL AFFIXED TO THE OUTER PART (POSTER)

·       CLEAN, WEAR-FREE LABELS

·       THE RECORD HAS A 'STERLING' STAMP IN THE TRAIL-OFF VINYL (DEAD WAX) AREA, WHICH IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED A PROOF OF AUTHENTICITY OF THE FIRST PRESSING.

·       THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING

(PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

(Note: this is a REAL image of the ACTUAL item you are bidding on. This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get.  GUARANTEED!)

Few people realize that The Band's fifth studio album - a trubute to great American tradition of Rhythm & Blues (The Band covers Sam Cooke, Junior Parker, Lee Dorsey, Bobby Blue Bland, Chuck Berry, The Platters, Fats Domino and Lieber & Stoller on this album) originally came with a (very) different cover from the one we recognize today. Initially, the record came within a poster, which was neatly folded to double as cover (a solution which didn't last very long, because many copies quickly got thorn and frayed around the edges). The cover showed a painting of the Band members hidden as casual passers-by hanging around the imaginary "Cabbagetown Café", a typical greasy spoon R&B/C&W spot in some fictitious small American town, presumably deep down south. The cover was later withdrawn in favor of a conventional, unimaginative design know today.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER 1 (inner jacket)

THE INNER (CARDBOARD) COVER IS  NEAR MINT

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:
