"THE BATTLE OF NORTH WEST SIX" - KEEF HARTLEY BAND. 1969 UK ISSUE GATEFOLD STEREO LP: SML 1054 on the DERAM Record Label. Produced by Neil Slaven.

Keith "Keef" Hartley (8 April 1944 – 26 November 2011) who was born in Preston, Lancashire, was an English drummer and bandleader. His career began as the replacement for Ringo Starr as drummer for Liverpool band: Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Subsequently he played and recorded with The Artwoods, and John Mayall. He then fronted his own eponymous band, known as the Keef Hartley Band or the Keef Hartley Big Band, and played at the Woodstock festival in 1969. The Keef Hartley (Big) Band, mixed elements of jazz, blues, and rock and roll.

Hartley has sadly very recently died on 26 November 2011, aged 67, at Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire.

This is a UK pressing (ZAL-9179.P-1W;ZAL-9180.P-1W) of "The Battle of North West Six" which is the second album by the Keef Hartley Band. At the time, Hartley's six-piece group was appearing augmented with a brass section as The Keef Hartley Big Band, and a number of songs on the album feature this extended line-up. This album was recorded at Decca's No.1 Studio, West Hampstead, London in 1969 and released later that year.
