Already present in various Beach Boys rarities and outtakes compilations and here finally receiving a long deserved full side treatment, the 'Alternate Take' of "Heroes And Vilains" is a truly exceptional experimental pop music masterpiece made of short segments perfectly matching together despite their differences in rhythm, mood and tone. Basically in just under 3 minutes you get a fireworks of ideas and harmonies that 99% of the pop bands of the last fifty years wouldn't put together in an entire career. Like an overview of all the key attractions from the best circus in the world summarized in charming 20 seconds sections. Stunning.
