“The best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound. Conventional keyboards and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, theremin, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments, Coca-Cola cans, barking dogs, and more. It wouldn't have been a classic without great songs, and this has some of the group's most stunning melodies, as well as lyrical themes which evoke both the intensity of newly born love affairs and the disappointment of failed romance (add in some general statements about loss of innocence and modern-day confusion as well). The spiritual quality of the material is enhanced by some of the most gorgeous upper-register male vocals (especially by Brian and Carl Wilson) ever heard on a rock record. "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline No," and "Sloop John B" (the last of which wasn't originally intended to go on the album) are the well-known hits, but equally worthy are such cuts as "You Still Believe in Me," "Don't Talk," "I Know There's an Answer," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times." It's often said that this is more of a Brian Wilson album than a Beach Boys recording (session musicians played most of the parts), but it should be noted that the harmonies are pure Beach Boys (and some of their best). Massively influential upon its release (although it was a relatively low seller compared to their previous LPs), it immediately vaunted the band into the top level of rock innovators among the intelligentsia, especially in Britain, where it was a much bigger hit.” Here are the tunes:

This album was recorded almost exactly 40 years ago! It still boggles the mind when you think of what thoughts might have been going through Brian’s mind during the recording of these tracks. At one point, Brian almost burned down the recording studio because he wanted to capture the energy of a fire, so he started one inside the studio! Amazing!!! This is a MONO copy of Pet Sounds, it is Not Stereo! I’ve graded it M MINT for the Beautiful cover which has its original shrink wrap 100% intact. The vinyl is also graded M Mint, making this album something Really Special! Can you believe it’s been 40 years? Do you know how Amazing this album is? This LP Record Set was cleaned using the

VPI HW-16.5 VACUUM TUBE CLEANER! 

The HW-16.5 is the standard in record cleaning machines, neither its build quality nor its cleaning power has ever been surpassed! Its high-torque, 18 RPM turntable motor is capable of standing the pressure of heavy scrubbing during long cleaning sessions, and its 35-second cleaning cycle makes quick work out of even the dirtiest records! The improved 16.5 model has the new self-aligning vacuum suction tube for even more accurate cleaning! I now clean all of my records that are NOT Factory Sealed with the VPI, then test listen to the vinyl, then clean the record again with the VPI. This baby costs me hundreds of dollars, but My Customers Deserve THE BEST!!!

GRADING SCALE

I use a Universal Grading System to describe the quality of the LP albums and 45 singles that I sell. I grade records under strong, diffused room light or discreet sunlight. I do not use stock photos for my ads; all of my scans are of the Item You See! You get no surprises from me!

NOTE: Please keep in mind that when I describe any LP, I am referring to its Original Year Of Release, NOT the year that the LP was printed! In many cases, the year that a given LP was printed is unknown. When in doubt, PLEASE ASK me! Thank You!

 All of my LP’s are stored upright in a SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT! 

• SS Mint (M): Album is New, Still Sealed and has never been played.
• Mint (M): The vinyl has no noticeable scratches, fingerprints or defects. May have been played more than once but there are no audible snaps or pops. The cover has no noticeable wear or defects. There may be very slight curling of the right side corners of the cover due to shrink wrap pressure. May still have it’s original shrink wrap.
• Near Mint (NM): Almost Mint vinyl with perhaps a few visual imperfections that do not affect the sound of the record. Cover is nice looking with no ring wear and may still have its original shrink wrap.
• VG++: Only slight signs of wear; very clean, only light surface marks which will not distract significantly from the sound, but perhaps a snap or a pop. Cover also has only slight wear, perhaps some ringwear and is still in nice collectible condition.
• VG+: Played often with moderate surface wear and some moderate noise - still plays well. Cover may have medium overall wear or heavy ring wear. Sleeve might have noticeable wear.
• VG: Overall wear, No serious defects, more noisy sound during quiet passages. Cover is well worn, usually with considerable ring wear. Sleeve may have more than noticeable wear.
• G+: Below average with scuffs and scratches on fewer than half the tracks, Heavy wear on record and cover. Possibly some skips or repeat grooves.
• G: Moderate; even wear throughout, but still playable. Surface noise and scratches, repeat groves, skips.
• G-: Lowest Grade. Audible scratches, etc. on more than half the tracks. Listening uncomfortable.

In my opinion, the grade of “Mint” and the word “Mint” does not equal Perfection. The grade of Perfection does not exist, as far as I know. Different phono cartridges and stereo setups, condition of the needle and if the record is cleaned before playing (or not cleaned) affects the way a vinyl record sounds. You can look at a record with the naked eye and not see micro imperfections which might affect the music and the sound. There are just too many variables. I listen to records after cleaning them. If I do not hear skips or pops or snaps and I do not see noticeable scratches, then as far as I am concerned, that record is Mint.
