This is the Pet Sounds pressing many seasoned collectors say:“This is the best this album ever sounded on analog vinyl.”

Why this "Brown Cover"pressing is special

It was cut from a fresh, first-generation master in 1972.  By the early ’70s, The Beach Boys had regained control of their catalog and moved distribution to Reprise Records via Brother Records.

For this reissue, they did not use the worn 1966 Capitol cutting tapes. They went back to a much earlier generation master — closer to Brian Wilson’s original mono mixdown tape than most Capitol pressings ever used.

The irony: a 1972 pressing uses a better source than many 1966 originals. And Reprise/Warner vinyl quality in ’72 was excellent:

  • Quieter surfaces
  • Better vinyl formulation
  • Less groove wear issues than ’60s Capitol copies
  • So you get clarity + quiet.

It’s still the original 1966 mono mix. Not a remix. Not fake stereo. Not Duophonic.

The real mono master — just cut properly.They did not “Capitol-ize” the sound. They let the tape speak.

Very good plus (VG+) vinyl and VG sleeve grading. We Grade Visually and Conservatively
