THE BEACH BOYS – Wild Honey
ORIG Capitol DEMO 45 / CL 15521 (UK, Mono, 1967)
With a release date of 17.11.67, here’s the original UK advance demonstration version of this Beach Boys’ seminal 1967 single.
One of the first releases after Brian’s ‘retreat’ this was one of the band’s least successful 1960s UK singles – only reaching number 29 in the British charts but it’s gained artistic momentum over the years with ‘Wild Honey’ ushering in a new ‘soulful’ sound while the beautifully eerie ‘Wind Chimes’ on the B showed the band in an experimental and psychedelic light…
The green and white ‘A’ labels are superb – full colour, NO writing, scrapes, residue or such like. One meagre spindle to the B shows that this was perhaps played just the once before it was consigned to the shelves. 'KT' embossed to the A-side centre. Minimum EX+ (Excellent Plus) labels.
The vinyl exhibits near max shine. One light scuff line to the A, a tiny pressing ‘bobble’ from manufacture is evident on both sides (no effect on play) but that’s about it. NO scratches, embedded dirt, warp, scrapes or other nasties. Looks lovely. Minimum EX+ (Excellent Plus) visually.
IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays superbly. NO snap, clicks, pops. No hiss or groove wear/distortion. Generally quiet run-ins and full definition / no loss of clarity.
Presented in its original Capitol company sleeve this is a lovely UK demo of this rare Beach Boys classic…
