Description

  • The BEATERS "Lost Memories" Instrumental soul jazz album
  • CBS Stereo LAB 4017 South Africa (year unknown - probably a mid-70's compilation)
  • Cover is VG due to the inevitable early blistering of the laminate that was applied to many UK and SA covers at that time. Otherwise would be VG+. No tears, coh or cc.
  • Disc looks almost M- and plays VG+ at least. It would improve with a professional clean. I did not do it myself because experience has put me off getting the fluid on monochromatic blue labels (and some red... but that is another story).
  • Shipping by Canada Post airmail is $9 within North America and $15 overseas

  • Max Mojapelo in his book Beyond Memory has the original line up of The Beaters as Selby Ntuli, Sipho Mabuse, Alec 'Om' Khaoli and Monty 'Saitana' Ndimande (on second guitar). The group came together in 1968 while still high school students in Soweto. Harari, issued on Rashid Vally's As-Shams (The Sun) label in 1975 is their fourth album after: Soul-A-Go-Go with Teal Records in 1969, Bacon And Eggs in 1970 and Mumsy with GRC in 1974: This is probably a compilation but I can find no reference to it anywhere. I brought it with me to Canada in 1985 - it was bought at my friend Ozzie Linton's (RIP) store in Rondebosch, Bookland, sometime between 1980 and 1984. Time now to pass it on.
  • To my mind the sound is reminiscent of a less accomplished version of Booker T. & the M.G.'s
