About the time that the Beatles were really hitting it big on the Sullivan show in February of 1964, Swan Records was looking for a way to increase their sales of 'Beatles' product. They only had a few singles in their vault, and they'd already issued "She Loves You" as Swan 4152. This one's by THE BUDDIES and is #4170. The topside is "The Beatle" and it's flipped with "Pulsebeat." While the group The Buddies may seem to be just another anonymous band, they weren't.
Check into the fine print and you'll see that both sides were written by WKBW Buffalo DJ Joey Reynolds. Fans of bad music everywhere might recall the legendary "Rats In My Room" by Joey and Danny. Joey would come on at 7p and spin till midnight. He’s generally acknowledged to have been radio’s first "shock jock," about 25 years before the term was coined. In later years he was heard in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia as a radio jock, TV personality, showbiz producer and music impresario.
