The Beatles - 'Please Please Me / Ask Me Why'. 45-R 4983
The Beatles 1963 UK 2nd FACTORY SAMPLE DEMO pressing of 'Please Please Me / Ask Me Why' 7" single. Released on the 11th January 1963, this also comes complete with the very rare and original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve which is in wonderful condition.
These initial early factory sample pressings would have usually been given out to reviewers, radio stations or used as quality control within the pressing plant.
This particular copy was originally owned by ATV Music Publishing. ATV were a major player in 1960's British music who went on to buy Lennon and McCartney's 'Northern Songs' publishing company owning almost all of The Beatles back catalogue. The company was famously sold to Michael Jackson in 1985 very much to Paul McCartney's annoyance.
Released on the black Parlophone label both sides feature the 'Recording First Published 1963' text and have 'The Parlophone Co.Ltd....' rim print. The a-side features the embossed transitional 'MPT' tax code dating it's production to January 1963 (a very early 2nd pressing). The 'PT' tax code ended in January 1963 and the 'MT' tax code began in January 1963 so this was produced at some point between the two. 'FACTORY SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE' sticker on the 'Please Please Me' side along with 'A' sticker and a 'PROPERTY OF ATV MUSIC LIBRARY' sticker to the 'Ask Me Why' side.

Side 1. 7XCE 17217-1N 1 GT MPT
Side 2. 7XCE-17218-1N 2 GA MPT
The vinyl is in VERY GOOD condition.
Both labels are in VERY GOOD+ condition. BUT have demo stickers as mentioned above and 'sh' written.
The original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve is in EXCELLENT+ condition.
