Brief Info: A magnificent double set, known as ‘The Blue’ album, a collection of singles, several of which that did not appear on original albums, plus selected album tracks. Issued as a companion set to the red album 1963–1966 (also on offer). This one peaked at No 2 in the UK album charts, the red album one place lower at No 3. All songs classics that most will be more than familiar with. A fantastic pair of records appearing hardly played with beautiful nigh-on pristine sound throughout (1 click noted, barely anything else). Nothing nothing more important than audio quality, these vintage gems all sound amazing without any digital tweaking or remastering of course.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): a gatefold format with the front and back laminated, the inside is matt and smooth. Printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse, includes the two blue lyric inner sleeves.

Lamination – Front & Back: The laminate both sides retains superb shine, freshness and clarity with no lifting and barely any trace of dulling, even under light. The lack of creasing is almost astonishing for a popular album cover this considerable age, any of the tiny few present are ultra fine edge types that hardly even register. Any marks or laminate blemishes very few, gentle and faint. This is still one of the finest and least aged I have seen in years.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Superb, barely anything to fault bar one or two ultra faint and tiny tone spots, look very hard. The laminate ends on the bottom edges, and this has not stuck or pulled.

Top Edges: Straight, flush, flat, smooth and unworn.

Bottom Edges: Mostly straight again without any wear worthy of mention.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with very little wear. Any thickening or burring minimal and light as seen viewed end-on. Records enter on these edges that are guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Retaining full laminate, this often flakes and peels on gatefolds, this has avoid it. Solid, straight with any compression light. Folded square, so the edges meet up very closely together and parallel. Any central crease formation from opening is fine and light also. The blue ink has faded a little due to light, but is still strong as-seen. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and unpeeled laminate.

Corners: Any tip rubs very small and light, excellent shape retained with no knocks.

Cover Summary: A lovely example and with so little overall wear, this should please many collectors.

The Inner Sleeves: Both EXCELLENT: and arguably looking better, only marked down for a couple of neat edge splits to them, all of which I have repaired, so all now solid with minimal evidence they were ever split. These unlined shaped corner lyric inners are immensely difficult to find in this fine little-worn condition. All surfaces very clean and deep blue with no ring wear, fading or creasing of any note, any rim impression gentle and faint. Both the deeply recessed top openings are very neat and impressive, just the odd tiny end nick or two, the ends hardly even thickened.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(+)/(++): a very fine visual pair that are very clean with equally fine shine and quite solidly pressed. These appear hardly played on all the evidence with any surface traces very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, hardly anything even registers. All four sides plays beautifully, one mild click heard, little else. Visually super records that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This magnificent compilation plays even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed, barely anything noted at all bar one mild click on ‘Hey Jude’, both records pressed to the highest standard with no tracking issues*. Few available copies will outperform them significantly I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain they have hardly been used and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these exceptionally well preserved records. They will prove very difficult to find better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
