Description

The Beatles : Abbey Road 2/1 (2nd Stereo Pressing)

I recently purchased a Beatles collection and the majority of them are Mono first pressings.  They have been incredibly well looked after by the one previous owner and she stored them all upright in plastic sleeves since the 60s.  They have only been lightly played and the covers are in wonderful condition.  Any minor wear will be fully described.  There will be no 'buy it now' price as I prefer to let the auctions run.

Stereo 2/1 Second Apple label.  "An EMI Recording printed on each label.  Apple logo is aligned to the track listing. 'Her Majesty' not credited on the gatefold but is on the record label.

Visual grading

This vinyl is in near pristine condition and visually is a stunning example.  I have it on good authority that the vinyl has only been played a few times and there is indeed only minor spindle wear.  I don't think I've seen a better vinyl from this era!  It still has a lovely glossy sheen and there are no scratches at all.  At first glance you would think it is new it is visually that good.  There are only a handful of very faint hairlines and these are only obvious when the record is tilted under a bright light.  As per the other Beatles LPs I am selling (all from the same previous owner) this one has been so well cared for down the years.   Not a first pressing but it is extremely rare to find a 2/1 second press looking and sounding as good as this.  The famous cover is also in Near Mint condition, absolutely stunning again.

Play grading

Side One overall plays with impeccable audio.  'Come Together' has almost perfect audio, no interference whatsoever.  'Something' has a little light crackle but it is very much in the background and not intrusive.  The track still plays with excellent clarity and is a great listen.  The remaining tracks with a quality that is so rare to hear on a record from the 60s.  There is no real interference bar some very light intermittent static and one light click at the beginning of 'I Want You' and a little distortion towards the end.  This track still plays with high end audio though.  In fact the audio across the whole side plays so clearly and with great depth and sonic quality.  A high quality listen indeed and as already stated the vinyl has only been lightly played as there is very little spindle wear on each label.

'Here Comes The Sun' plays beautifully and with no intrusive interference.  It has to be one of the best versions I have heard of this classic song.  'Because' again plays without clicks, pops etc and only has some light static that is very much in the background.  All the remaining tracks play with a depth of sound and clarity you so very rarely hear on records of this age.  'Sun King' plays so well but then so do all the songs!  No clicks or pops again.  Even the quiet sections play so clearly and 'Golden Slumbers' is a great example of this.  There is just a hint of static here and there but in no way does it intrude into what is a fabulous listen!  There is a little distortion towards the end of the 'Carry That Weight' but maybe that is more my system.  'The End' plays with impeccable audio.

 Cover

It is no exaggeration to say this G & L cover is practically Mint.  I have never seen a better early press cover and it is absolutely pristine.  The edges and spine are in perfect order with no shelf wear and even the corners have almost zero rubbing.  Only the bottom opening edge has rubbing of any note but it is very minor.  The laminate throughout remains in immaculate condition with only a handful of tiny creases that are only visible when held under a certain light.  There are no marks or writing anywhere.   I can't say anymore about this iconic cover!  For 45 years plus this cover is stunning and it would be impossible to find better in my humble opinion.  What a fantastic example!

Inner sleeve

The plain white inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits, tears or marks.  It only has some mild creasing as you would expect.

Labels

The labels are in great condition with very little spindle wear, no marks or writing at all.
