Description
THE BEATLES Abbey Road 1969 UK APPLE no 'HER MAJESTY' Nr MINT AUDIO
MIS-ALIGNED APPLE, G&L LAMINATED SLEEVE w/BLACK INNER
THE BEATLESAbbey Road
UK APPLE (PCS 7088) FIRST PRESSING (September 1969) OF THE BEATLES CLASSIC "Abbey Road" LP
MIS-ALIGNED APPLE COVER AND NO “Her Majesty” CREDIT ON THE LABEL (this was quickly amended as it was deemed unacceptable for any 'Lennon/McCartney' song to have no credit/copyright - even one as short as this is)
AND AS ONE OF THE EARLIEST ISSUES IT COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL BLACK INNER SLEEVE
PRESSED ON HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WHICH DELIVERS TREMENDOUS SOUND QUALITY - EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE CUT WITH A DEEP, RICH AND WARM SOUND - BEAUTIFULLY RECORDED
THE LP HAS THE FIRST DARK GREEN APPLE LABELS
MATRICES: YEX 749-2 / YEX 750-1 (first pressing)
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 9/MOD and 7/ARL
HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FULLY LAMINATED AND DEEPLY GLOSSY SINGLE SLEEVE “Printed by Garrod & Lofthouse International Ltd"
COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL 1968/9 MATT, SINGLE SIDED DIE-CUT BLACK APPLE INNER SLEEVE
The album was of course, named after the London road in St. John's Wood that houses the E.M.I. studios (although, at one time it was going to be titled, "Everest").
The cover photograph was taken on Friday 8th August 1969 by Iain Macmillan (on a pair of stepladders) at 10 o'clock in the morning.
For these quick snaps the police held up the traffic for 10 minutes as six pictures were taken (Paul wore his sandals in two of the shots).
Along with Sgt. Peppers, once again The Beatles managed to create a cover so iconic that it has been imitated many times.
Side 1: Come Together / Something / Maxwell's Silver Hammer / Oh Darling / Octopus Garden / I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Side 2: Here Comes The Sun / Because / You Never Give Me Your Money / Sun King / Mean Mr Mustard / Polythene Pam / She Came In Through The Bathroom Window / Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End
LABELS: EXCELLENT
Clean, bright and unmarked labels with moderate spindles - clearly well played but extremely well cared for (and played on a quality sound system) borne out by the practically unmarked vinyl surfaces and the unworn, distortion-free sound it delivers
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT++
Both surfaces retain their original deep, glossy sheen and appear practically unmarked under normal light with just wispy light hairlines visible under very bright light
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Outstanding audio on this first pressing - a beautifully recorded album with deep, rich, detailed and incredibly warm sound - gorgeous audio reproduction throughout.
My play-check at loud volume revealed no audio issues of note whatsoever - no scratches, no loud clicks/pops and no groove-wear or distortion - the playback is beautifully clean with practically silent run-ins, track divisions and quieter passages - a really superb copy
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
The original fully laminated G&L sleeve is clean, bright and fresh with no wear to speak of on the edges or (very thin) spine.
The surfaces have a beautiful deep, deep glossy sheen with no rubbing (just a little record impression).
There is slight rippling to the opening edge due to the tight laminate but this is a manufacturing issue and very minor
Overall, an exceptional example of this "mis-aligned" variant
INNER SLEEVE: EXCELLENT++
The original black die-cut Apple inner shows signs of handling but there are no splits to any of the edges or snags to the central die-cut window
ALL RECORDS ARE PACKAGED WITH THE VINYL OUTSIDE OF THE SLEEVE TO PREVENT ANY 'KNIFING' DURING TRANSIT
A PROTECTIVE POLY SLEEVE, NEW INNER SLEEVE WITH ANTI-STATIC LINER, QUALITY BOX (NOT ENVELOPE) MAILER AND AMPLE STIFFENERS ARE ALWAYS USED TO ENSURE THAT YOUR RECORD ARRIVES SAFELY
