The Beatles released an album titled 'Yesterday and Today' (also known as '"Yesterday"...and Today'), in 1966. The story of the album cover is a long and complicated one, but the bottom line is a cover that was immediately recalled!

The original cover had 3/4 of a million copies printed up. Capitol Records, the label here in the US, quickly decided that the original "butcher cover" was too risqué, therefore the 750,000 copies were recalled. Many copies that had already been sent to radio stations offended the disc jockeys, due to the artwork. It was the band members, dressed in white coats, with pieces of meat and baby doll parts thrown about. It was either John, Paul, George, and Ringo not being happy about their record companies here and in the UK "butchering" their albums' original tracklistings, or their take on the Vietnam war. Either way, it was shocking to most people!

As to offset such an expensive endeavor as recalling hundreds of thousands of copies and destroying each one, Capitol pasted a new cover over the old one. The new one had the band, in a squeaky clean image, posed around a "steamer" trunk. The original copies, with no pasted image, are worth the most money. The pasted over copies are worth some money, and even the copies that the new artwork was peeled off, and they did a good job of that, are worth a great price. Unfortunately, most copies didn't survive the peeling, and those copies got messed up, as it was not made to be peeled off...

Today we look back at that great album, and the iconic butcher cover, as well as the new artwork with a rare and scarce 12" vinyl picture disc LP! One side is the boys in the white coats, with the meat, and the baby dolls. The flip side has the steamer trunk art, with song titles. Both sides are in beautiful condition, and the vinyl is shiny and clean. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. But this would look awesome in a frame, and proudly displayed! It's also a thick and heavy 180 gram vinyl collectible.

Bring home a pic disc from one of the greatest rock and roll bands that ever existed...The Beatles, and their mid 60s controversial album that caused their record company to sink a quarter of a million dollars ($2.35 million in today's money) to recall the copies and "fix" them. I know it seems tame by today's standards, but this WAS a different time. Beatles' fans love their merch, and this one is a rare and fantastic piece to own!
