THE BEATLES FIRST OZ STEREO LP/SILVER BANNER= PLEASE PLEASE ME
First Australian stereo pressing .It has the banner heading. Released in 1964 on black and silver Parlophone . It has the combined mono/stereo info on the back at top right. There is an added EMI credit on the labels. After Please Please Me topped the charts, the Beatles recorded and rushed this album out almost immediately. It still sounds exciting and fresh today owing in no small part to it’s somewhat spontaneous origins. The Beatles mixed a small scattering of originals with group of extensive and eclectic influences to create a series of unconventional and exciting covers. There’s everything here-show tunes, girl group, glorious r’n’b and savage driving rock’n’roll. Had the Beatles a more extensive back catalogue of originals at the time, it’s more than possible a lot of these covers would not have seen the light of day.But that’s only in the realms of the ‘possible’.
What we have here in reality is an album whose influence has been profound. In that respect, it is arguably the most important popular album of the sixties and the decade to come. It rips the covers off musical genres that were thought to have been dead and buried at the end of the previous decade and opened the world’s gaze to a still glittering treasure trove of musical glories waiting to be explored further.
Condition wise- the back cover has mild foxing. Conservatively the cover is EX (see scans). The labels are M- The (a) side vinyl has some minor scuffing and is around EX- While the other side is EX+. The album has a slight warp but it doesn’t affect play at all. Keeper copy. Most early copies you find of the LP are considerably more marked than this high end copy of a heavyweight giant that changed the face of popular music forever.
