THE BEATLES – Beatles For Sale ORIG Parlophone LP / PCS 3062 (UK, Stereo, 1964)

Happy to present this rare STEREO UK 1st press of the Fabs’ 4th long player.  This is in generally satisfying condition and a strong player.  It has:-

-         ‘The Parlophone Co. Ltd’ rim text

-         ‘Recording first published 1964’

-         ‘Sold in The UK subject to…’

-         Matrices are YEX 142-1 (the 2 here is stamped over) and YEX 143-1

-         Mothers/Stampers are  3   M  (Side 1) and  1   A   (Side 2)

-         Embossed K T tax code to the centre label of Side 2.

The gatefold outer laminated sleeve has the record entering, as usual, in the centre of the inner gate and is in all round VG (Very Good) condition.  It shows the following signs of age: several light and small creases mainly to the front; one heavier crease to the top front and a lighter but bigger one to the front top right corner; slight edge wear to top and bottom (small split to bottom edge); some corner wear mainly to the spine corners; a tiny peel to the front bottom right corner; a nick to the bottom rear right corner; the outline/impression of a signature inside the gate (not pen) and some slight rubbing and signs of handling to the inner gate.  Understand that I outline all aspects of the sleeve away from its original mint freshness.  The spine is still intact (all text legible), there are NO rips, tape or stickers.  Lies mainly flat, still with good colour.  My VGs are not trashed! And this still has plenty of life left.  Above average.

The original black and yellow Parlophone labels are very nice. No writing, stickers, residue, scrapes or foxing spots.  The silver and yellow yext is still vivid and attractive.  There are some tightly knit spindle traces, not lazy and concentrated around the centre hole which shows very little signs of wear.  Nice labels.

The sharp medium weight vinyl lies perfectly flat and maintains very close to maximum shine.  There are some marks but, in keeping with my VG grade, these are few not many and isolated and mainly light.  They are as follows:  one light scuff line; a couple of (very) fine, near invisible hairlines and a more prominent light scratch traversing the first track and a half (Side 1).  A prominent but not large scuff line; one or two fine hairlines and a larger patch of light but not conspicuous scuffing to Side 2.  Again be aware that I’m giving you all the cosmetic blemishes I find under close examination.  This disc hasn’t been played too heavily at all and except for a couple of careless handling marks would easily grade EX.  Shine is certainly excellent – no dulling.  Visually I’m again grading VG (Very Good) but it’s the kind of record I’ve bought so many times graded as EX, if not above.  IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and the audio should satisfy most Beatles collectors.  There are NO clicks, hiss, drop outs, repeated pops.  There is no distortion or groove wear and no loss of clarity/lack of definition.  Do consider that the light scratch at the beginning of Side 1 causes some repeated light ticks throughout ‘No reply’ and halfway into ‘I’m A Loser’ but these are generally under the music and not too intrusive.  The rest of this important rare stereo LP plays really well – a couple of quickfire pops on Side 2 and that’s pretty much it.  Satisfactory audio.

Presented in its original ‘Emitex’ inner sleeve (EX state, no splits).

No reserve.

PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO UNDERSTAND MY GRADES!

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades.  After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN?  What is NM+? Or EX---?   These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay.  I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade.  Excellent, by dictionary definition means ‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
