Description

ORIGINAL 1964 BEATLES FAN CLUB POSTCARD SIGNED PAUL McCARTNEY, RINGO STARR, JOHN LENNON & GEORGE HARRISON. DESCRIPTION: On offer here is an original hand signed (NOT PRE PRINTED) Beatles Fan Club postcard. It measures 5 3/4 x 3 5/8 inches. The signatures are in blue ball point. There is no question that the signatures are hand written - if you turn the card over you can see the indent on the 'y' of McCartney and most of Lennon's signature - he must've pressed on harder !There is a date on the back "16th Oct 1964" written in what appears to be a woman's hand. CONDITION: Good. It does have signs of wear - Ringo's signature is missing the top of the "R" of "Ringo" where someone has used sellotape (I imagine) to attach it to a wall ? The sellotape damage is repeated on the reverse (see photo). There is staining on the card surface - it appears to be from the sellotape gum - and a little creasing, although nothing too noticeable. AUTHENTICITY: I bought this item from a someone selling items from a house clearance some years ago. No certificate of authenticity was provided and no background story. I have done extensive research regarding this item in order to determine it's origins: The photograph was taken by Dezo Hoffman in (possibly July 1962) and the Beatles Fan Club issued the photocard in September 1963. A lot of these cards were signed by club secretatries and sent to members - I have seen quite a lot of these cards, and the signatures DO NOT match the ones on this card. Neil Aspinall, the Beatles' road manager, signed a good number of these cards during 1963 and possibly '64. The rest were signed by the Beatles themselves - naturally these are very rare. I have taken this card to various collectors and people who have studied graphology (the study of handwriting) and I am told that the signatures match those of the Beatles' own during the period stated (1964) All four have very distinctive styles which would be difficult for one person to reproduce, especially when signing vast numbers of them. The date on the reverse is written in, what I am told, appears to be a woman's hand. Although I'm no expert, I have looked at a lot of Beatles autographs myself from 1963 - 1965 and these definately match. I am starting this auction at the bottom because I cannot guarantee that the Beatles themselves signed the card. There is no reserve either. I am told that it is still a valuable item regardless of whether they signed it or not. But if they are genuine signatures then the value could be very high indeed. I have had many offers for this item ranging from £100 to £800, I have declined because I never intended to part with it since I am personally satisfied that it is genuine (although I cannot prove it) A recent financial crisis moves me to part with this item with great reluctance. GOOD LUCK WITH THE BIDDING. FULL INSURANCE WILL BE ARRANGED WHEN POSTING THIS ITEM. COLLECTION IN PERSON IS ALSO WELCOME. I WILL BE LISTING MORE AUTOGRAPHS FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION SHORTLY
