THE BEATLES

HELP !

EARLY 1ST STEREO

1965 CAT. NO PCS 3071
Master Matrices YEX 168-1 / YEX 169-1

Here we have a rare 1st pressing of Help! in Stereo format with an MT tax code embossed on the label rather than the usual KT tax code.
The original Stereo version is regarded as rarer than the Mono, owing to Mono record players still prevailing over Stereo well in to the late sixties, consequently being less demand for Stereo format records/ LP's at the time of Help! In addition, this particular copy has the MT tax code embossed, which was long out of use in the U.K. as a tax code. It is much more likely that any other original Help! LP or any Beatles LP manufactured between 1964 and 1968 that comes up for sale will have the KT tax code. Perhaps EMI had the MT tax code on a select portion for internal purchae tax auditing purposes. With very early mothers/ stamper codes aswell, that makes this a very early pressing, probably a first week seller. It still sounds amazing too.

Sleeve: In Excellent condition. It is very rare to find one in such a condition as this. The front panel and rear panel are unblemished besides two very small feint crease lines on the front, and two feint indent line on the rear. The spine looks almost as new, there is no laminate bubbling or scuff wear to the glossy front pictorial, the flip-backs are clean, neat, and intact, and the rear of the sleeve has retained its whiteness with no notable blemishes. This is a comparatively superb original sleeve without even a trace of record ring-wear, and are normally always found with at least some dirt residue or tiny splits to the edges. This one has just very little hardly noticeable storage wear to the corners, but absolutely no edge wear to the laminate or card.
No handwriting or writing imprints.
Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. (Patents Pending)

Original EMI tracing liner inner: Excellent condition. No splits to any of the edges, no marks or blemishes, neat opening slot with no scuffing. Completely intact, correctly has the Made In England text but not the Patents Pending text.

The Vinyl: Very Good Plus condition. The surfaces on both sides are completely groove wear free, displaying a bright unblemished pressing shine. The surfaces look remarkable with ONLY THE VERY LIGHTEST AND FEINTEST hairlines scattered over the surfaces on both sides mainly viewed with the vinyl tilted angled under a direct light source, and extremely hard to see when held horizontal. Nothing at all obtrusive, and anything visible only superficial to the surfaces. The vinyl surfaces are smooth and clean, the pattern of the interwoven grooves can be seen which hold the propensity for the amazing Beatle  musical creation. No actual scratches, scuffs, marks, warps or dinks or anything remotely feelable. The item received frequent but careful use, and these Parlophone LP’s were built to last a long time.
Lays completely flat on the turntable, heavyweight Sixties vinyl.
The Labels: Excellent condition. No immediately visible wear to the spindle perimeter, unless looked at close up in immense detail, and no spindle location lines at all on either side!
MT tax code still bold and unworn.
Mothers/ Stampers combinations:
Side 1 - 2 AO
Side 2 - 3 MT
Given the demand for The Beatles at this point it is fair to say would've been pressed within the first couple of days for the initial stock orders.

The Audio: Grades as Excellent. Plays smoothly from start to finish on each side with immense detail and perfect Stereo channeling. This is a surface-noise free player with no interruption or notable defects of any kind over any audio. The short interludes between tracks - which only have the minor inevitable static that an old record carries and in one or two of the quieter parts occasionally on some tracks but hard to notice. Nothing obtrusive to the audio, nothing that can be heard over any audio. No pops, skips, jumps, sticks etc. The vinyl shows that the record has been played, but as stated, has been handled as good as can be expected given that many originals are found overly used.  The audio standard is much better than most of these originals that surface now. Plays with perfect Stereo channeling, crisp and clear vocals and instruments. Pretty much an audiophile copy and guarantees not to disappoint.
