This, the first press of the special 50th Anniversary re-release of the “Love Me Do” single was withdrawn due to manufacturing errors. It has two specific discrepancies. The first is that they used the Please Please Me album version instead of the original single version (the album version has Andy White on drums and Ringo Starr on tambourine, whereas the correct single version has Ringo on drums). Secondly, the label on the a-side (with “Love Me Do”), has the record number used on the original release, which is R-4949, but the b-side (with “P.S. I Love You”), has the number listed as R-4714. That number was originally used on the Parlophone Records single “Portrait of My Love” by Matt Monro. Corrected copies were issued with a re-release date of Oct. 22, 2012 that contain the correct version of “Love Me Do”. Corrected copies have the number BC91232 – 01 while the originals (this version) have BC88858 0111 instead.
