 Visual grading

This vinyl is visually stunning and is in pristine condition which is remarkable when you consider how old it is.  I have never seen one looking as clean as this.  There are no marking or scratches and all I can detect are a couple of mega fine hairlines on S2.  To say it retains a stunning glossy sheen is an understatement!  There is some spindle wear but not a great deal it has to be said and it is obvious this vinyl has been very carefully handled down the decades.  What a fabulous example of this very early mono pressing.

Play grading

S1 has next to no lead in static and 'I Saw Her Standing There' then plays with astounding audio that has no interference whatsoever.  This immaculate quality continues throughout the side with no clicks or pops and I didn't even hear a single dust tick.  For a vinyl now 54 years old the clarity is quite simply sublime and I have never heard better.  There is an imperceptible amount of static on a couple of fade outs but so quiet and totally non intrusive.  Only 'Please Please Me' has a little distortion but that is probably due to a mono recording being played on a stereo system.

'Love Me Do' displays very impressive audio with only a minor amount of very light static when there is a pause in the music.  However, it is so much in the background as to be negligible and I only mention it as I believe in fully grading the records as my feedback confirms.  It still plays with stunning sound quality.  The remaining tracks play equally as well and again there are no clicks or pops.  The clarity and depth is again first class and it is a rarity for such an early pressing to play so clearly.  'Twist And Shout' does play with a little distortion but this may be due to the aforementioned reason or perhaps because it is the final track where the grooves are often pressed closer together in order to 'fit' it onto the side.  Aside from that there is no other 'background'.  Another thing worth mentioning is that there is a little more static on the dead wax between tracks on this side but that of course does not interfere with the overall wonderful sonic quality of the music.

Cover

This G & L laminated cover is in excellent condition with some minor shelf wear.  The edges remain very clean with a small number of rub marks on the top edge and the spine has just one small crease mark and is still 100% legible.  The corners have a little wear but nothing extreme and the opening edge is also very clean with hardly any handling wear.  The laminate on the front cover has no splits or lifting and only a handful of very small creases.  The back cover has no writing on just some faint age related marking here and there and the flipbacks are generally very clean with none of the severe staining that you so often see.  Again they only have a few small creases.  Overall this is an example of this iconic cover.

Inner sleeve

The original Emitex polylined inner does have a small split on each side but they are 'clean' and not at all obvious.  It has no marking or writing and just a little creasing.

The labels

The yellow/black Parlophone labels have no marking or writing and only not very much spindle wear.  No KT tax code stamp on this copy.
