It is now accepted that copies of The Beatles' debut album, Please Please Me, which mistakenly feature TWO mentions of 33 1/3 on the black and yellow Parlophone labels, are in fact first pressings which were produced concurrently with the black and gold label versions. Comparison of mother stampers appears to bear this out. Furthermore, these double 33 1/3 copies are considerably rarer than black and gold copies, says Record Collector magazine. And here is a lovely keeper copy to add to your collection. This copy comes in the very first press E J Day-printed flipback sleeve, confirmed by the Angus Bean front panel photo credit positioned to the far right of the bottom right corner of the sleeve. And there is further provenance here thanks to the original purchaser's neatly written name on the back panel along with the date the album was acquired: April 27, 1963 - amazingly, within the first month of this historic album's release. This lovely disc has 1N/1N matrices and mother stampers of 1 - RM and 1 over 2 - GO. Both sides of the vinyl are in strong VG+ condition with only light surface marks showing when critically examined under harsh halogen lighting, and certainly no feelable marks. This disc has clearly been well cherished by a loyal fan. The original lined 'EMITEX' inner sleeve is in fine condition, and remains unsplit. The first press Ernest J Day single flipback sleeve is not perfect but is nevertheless easily one of the better ones you will come across today. It is very strong and flat and the opening edges are remarkably unworn but there is some corner wear and a couple of areas of light damage to the lower flipback, which should all be fully visible in my photos. So a real Beatles' rarity which only occasionally crops up on the open market. Good luck if you are bidding.
