Description
You are bidding on an fantastic condition copy of The Beatles 1963 album Please Please Me. This is an early first pressing, indicated by the stampers on the run out grooves. It is the second issue with the black and yellow Parlophone labels, but no 'Sold In UK' text. It is in the much rarer Ernest J. Day sleeve. The whole package is in excellent condition and plays fantastically. Please read on for a detailed description and check out the photos of the actual item you are bidding on.
The sleeve: Very clean Ernest J. Day sleeve. All laminate is in perfect condition except for a few minor creases. The fold over flaps are perfect. The corners have very minor bumping. The side opening edges have very minimal wear. The unlaminated rear is very clean. There are no seam splits. The Ernest J. Day sleeves are notoriously fragile and it is unlikely you will see one is such great condition for a long time. Overall this is a superb sleeve which i would grade Exc+
The stampers: Side 1: 15 GGT Side 2: 8 ROT (ROP is crossed out)
Tax code: KT embossed on Side 2
Matrix: -1N on both sides
The labels: Side 1's label is very clean with strong text and minimal spindle wear to the centre. Side 2 is in a similar condition but does have a heavy scratch mark to the right hand side. I would grade Side 1 Exc and Side 2 VG
The vinyl: Both sides retain their original high gloss sheen. They are free from marks and scratches and look absolutely superb. I would grade both sides as Exc+
The sound: Overall the sound is exceptional. Very clear with virtually no noise. There are no pops or crackles. There are no skips or jumps. This is probably one of the best 1963 pressings of this album that you will find. I would grade it Exc+
The inner sleeve: The original 'Emitex' sleeve is included. It has a two inch split to one side and a few creases to the bottom. It is the correct early sleeve with a less transparent centre than later ones. I would grade it as Exc-
Overall this is a fantastic example of a first press of The Beatles' Please Please Me album in mono. I would grade the record overall as Exc+
The record will be posted in a strong record mailer with free insured postage in the UK.
