Description
The Beatles – Please Please Me LP
Original UK Mono 4th press of The Beatles 1st UK album, released 22nd March 1963.
Housed within original laminated “round cornered” flip-back Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve with red “Parlophone Company” logo front top left and large-sized “mono” top right. Complete with original polythene lined “Use Emitex…” die-cut inner sleeve.
Second label variation. Black/Yellow Parlophone Labels with Arial font. “Recording First Published 1963” credit and "THE PARLOPHONE CO.LTD." perimeter print label text. Labels are in excellent condition.
Catalogue Code: PMC 1202.
Matrix Numbers: Side A - XEX 421-1N and Side B - XEX 422-1N
Side A: Mother code 15 and Stamper code ROL (258).
Side B: Mother code 15 and Stamper ROH (257).
MT Tax Code around spindle hole on side A.
The MT Tax Code was in use between January 1st 1963 and June 30th 1963.
Vinyl condition: EX-/EX-. Both sides of the vinyl are clean with only some very light surface scratches and most are only visible under very bright light. The LP clearly has signs of having been played but this has very little deterioration on sound quality. It plays beautifully with very little interference. Only the occasional click / pop but in the main these are lost within the depth of the tracks. No skips or jumps. However, opinions will differ according to different eyes, ears, equipment etc. Minimal spindle wear to side A and hardly any spindle wear to side B. Some very light spindle marks to the centre of the label around the spindle hole on both sides.
Polythene lined Emitex inner sleeve is in excellent condition, no tears or splits, with only some minimal creasing to the corners. No discolouration, staining or writing.
Sleeve: VG+. Very minor ring wear to the front and the back covers. The cover is clean from marks, writing, labels or cellotape both inside and out. The back cover has been subject to some discolouration and has a couple of small stains to the un-laminated cardboard, particularly near the track listing but these do not affect or obscure the text (see photographs). The sleeve is perfectly flat.
The front of the sleeve is in very good condition, there are a couple of areas of light spidering / creasing of the laminate adjacent to the spine and top and bottom edges and near the open edge (see photographs). Overall, the laminate is in very good condition and still retains its glossy sheen. No fading or discolouration. The white top title panel is clean with only very slight discolouration. There is some very slight scuffing to each of the corners of the sleeve although minimal. There is some wear to the cardboard of the open edge due to handling.
Flip backs of the Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve are intact and sound with only a couple of cracks / creases to the laminate evident. The spine is in very good condition, with only some slight discolouration. Laminate has 4 cracks on the spine but these do not affect the title text. Title text of the spine is perfect with no damage or wear.
Generally in very good condition given its age of 49 years and a very good example of this fantastic debut album!

THE VINYL HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN PLAYED MANY TIMES BUT NO MAJOR DETERIORATION IN SOUND QUALITY. THERE MAY BE SURFACE MARKS AND THE ODD LIGHT SCRATCH. ALSO THERE COULD BE SOME SURFACE NOISE. NORMAL WEAR ON SLEEVE BUT NO MAJOR FAULT IS ACCEPTABLE

DUE TO PROLONGED PLAYING THE VINYL’S SOUND QUALITY HAS NOTICEABLY DETERIORATED. THERE COULD ALSO BE DISTORTION AND MILD SCRATCHES. THE SLEEVE COULD SUFFER FROM DISCOLOURATION, FOLDS, SPLIT SPINES AND SCUFFS.
