Description

  • 12 inch, vinyl mono LP - 33 1/3 rpm
  •  Issued in 1963 on the Parlophone label
  • This appears to be the 4th pressing:- Ernest J.Day & Co. front laminated cover, with large “mono” on front. Black label with yellow logo and silver print. “The Parlophone Co. Ltd.” printed at the start perimeter print and “Recording first published 1963?.
  • This is the 1st studio album from 'The Fab Four', The album contains the 'A' and 'B' sides of the first two singles plus 10 new songs. There are 8 Lennon & McCartney songs (credited McCartney - Lennon on the sleeve and label) and 6 covers.
  • The album sold poorly on its initial release, but has since come to be regarded as a classic that regularly features in 'greatest album' lists.
  • The musicians on the recording were:- Reggie Young - guitar, Tommy Cogbill - bass, Bobby Wood - piano, Bobby Emmons - keyboards, Gene Chrisman - drums (the 'Memphis Cats') with Mike Leach - conga. Backing vocals by The Sweet Inspirations. Strings conducted by Gene Orloff.
  • Produced by Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin for Atlantic, engineered by Ed Kollis
  • Record at American Sound Studios in Memphis, Tennessee and in New York.

  • The outer sleeve features a full-face photo of Dusty on the front, with a green border. The back is also green with a full track listing, credits and sleeve notes by the American music journalist, Stanley Booth.
  • The inner sleeve is a polyvinyl lined, white sleeve, with printed safety warnings

Condition

  • The record appears to be in excellent condition.
  • The record shows no sign of warping and there are no visible marks or scratches. The playback quality is good, with only slight surface noise in the quieter passages
  • The sleeve has some very faint creases and ring wear and some minor edge wear on the corners.
  • The inner sleeve is undamaged but shows signs of age(see photos)
  • Based on the guidelines of the Record Collectors Guild, I would say this record is 'Very Good' (www.recordcollectorsguild.org)
