THE BEATLES – PLEASE PLEASE ME - German Odeon ZTOX 5550
This is the super rare German PLEASE PLEASE ME made for Export and for Military PX sales. Not sold to the German public.
The Beatles were a huge hit in Germany and and tons of their records were made and sold ... many with unique picture sleeves (esp the singles and EPs)!
This - a copy of the UK Parlophone Please Please Me (but in the required Odeon label) - was made specifically for export and was distributed mainly to US and British Military Base stores in Germany and Austria. Relative to the standard Odeon releases very few of these were made...maybe a few thousand.
The covers unfortunately were not nearly as sturdy as the UK Parlophone releases and the vinyl often had "pits" or other manufacturing defects. These covers were easily wrinkled and torn...esp at the insert edges.
The visual grading is as follows: Front Cover Excellent to M-. Back Cover is VG+. The labels are M-. Vinyl looks M-. I have never played this LP. Please note that the bottom spine shows lamination cracking ... but it does not appear to be a thru seam split. A the second owner I have stored the record outside of it cover for (for over thirty years). This is one of the best looking covers I have come across in 45 years of collecting. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS ORIGINAL AND IS NOT ANY REPRODUCTION COPY.
