UK pressed Parlophone Records mono LP, PMC 1202.

1963 later pressed variant, with yellow and black labels, "The Parlophone Co. Ltd." upper case perimeter lettering, "Recording First Published" text, but no "Sold In The UK" text. Large "mono" to front of sleeve.

Side One: XEX 421 1N - Side Two: XEX 422 1N.

Side One: 1 12 - Side Two: 14.

Side One: RRA - Side Two: RAR.

ZKT tax code is embossed to A side label.

Not mint, but a much cleaner than usual issue with the bonus of very clean playback.

Vinyl in visually strong VG plus condition. Marks around the spindle areas suggests plays, but not excessively so. The centre spindle areas are still crisp and without excessive whitening. Vinyl surfaces have a high gloss still, and are free of any deep and sounding marks. Just a very few scuff marks are visible on casual inspection. Close inspection with a magnifying glass reveals just a few further isolated superficial scuffs and hairlines. There is not a network of fine hairlines on the surfaces. On the whole appears a fairly carefully played and looked after LP.

Actual playback is very clean throughout and not far from EX. There is no distortion, and the LP, even though a later press, still has that sonorous, rich and punchy mono sound that has never been bettered. The cut is very loud. There is no underlying background noise or crackle, and just the very occasional isolated spot of light crackle is heard at the band separators and barely at all during the actual tracks. Many of the band separators are impressively quiet. There are no loud ticks or clicks.

Note that I have not cleaned or treated the LP in any way so there can only be room for improved playback, although the surfaces are not grimy, finger stained or grubby.

Labels are clean and undefaced both sides and have a good lustre, free of dulling or rubbing. No penned etc. initials.

Garrod and Lofthouse sleeve grades VG with no glaring faults. There are no pen, sticker or other marks or stains. Front panel still has a good gloss, and laminate is complete and unpeeled. No laminate air bubbling, although a few half moons and pinch line creases, including some leading in from edge areas. Slight creasing to top left corner. Rear panel fairly solid for age with some natural age toning and handling darkening smudges. For some reason this appears worse than it it is in the photo. Backflaps clean and intact. Entry side is a little ruffled with a spot of separation of layers. Two closed tears to centre of rear entry side, one measures approx. one inch, the other approx. a quarter of an inch. Tips somewhat worn and rounded with a tiny piece of loss to top right corner. Closed split of approx. half an inch to bottom right seam at entry side. Else seams fairly solid with no splits and just one or two chipping spots. This includes one which affects spine titling (pictured), else spine is fairly solid.

Original "Use Emitex" poly lined inner is about a VG minus. Although unmarked, unbrowned and complete, there are splits of approx. two inches to centres of both sides, and approx one inch to centre of bottom edge. A couple of closed tears with associated creasing near centre hole at one side only. Some light overall handling creasing.

An imperfect but nicer than usual copy of this LP with very acceptable and clean, crisp playback.

Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.

Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
