Description
The very first UK issue of Revolver was pressed using remix/mix 11, used on a short pressing run and then withdrawn/replaced by The Beatles preferred music mix, remix 8. There is a mass of website info on remix 11 and the subtle music differences between this first original pressed mix 11 and the following corrected mix 8 that was used on all following pressings of this album. The difference between this first mix 11 and the usual mix 8 is on the last track, Tomorrow Never Knows.
If you want a Revolver very first pressing this listed record is one, a very first pressing mix 11 because it has side 2 matrix runout XEX 606-1 and later pressings have side 2 runout XEX 606-2 or higher. (side 1 is XEX 606-2) Photos show runouts. Additional runout information: On side one, in the deadwax, on left of label the mother number is 1. On the right hand side of side one it has the stamper letters GN. Fairly sure its GN but initially it looked like GM or even OM. On side two, on left of label it has the mother number 2. On right side of label on this side two it has the stamper letters GR, initially looked like OR but fairly sure its GR.
This listed LP was bought in August 1966 by a school boy in England. In the 1970s he emigrated to Perth Australia with his records. About 8-years ago I was fortunate to buy his collection including this Revolver album, without realising it was so special. This record is 53-years old with only two owners - you could be the third.
Sound Quality: fully play tested loud, fairly scratched but because its early quality heavy vinyl it sounds much better than it looks. Side 2 plays with either nil surface noise or very little light surface noise in places. Side 1 tracks 1, 2, 3 and 7 play without noticeable surface noise. Track 4 has more noticeable surface noise during the soft music before the singing starts. Tracks 5 and 6 have more noticeable surface noise in parts but does not overpower the music. Both sides play without noticeable clicks/pops. Overall, not perfect but a rare special record that can be played and enjoyed.
Vinyl Visual Description: Side 2 looks VG with a surface shine but many light scratches. Side A looks -VG with a surface shine but five or six bad long scratches and many light scratches. Photos of the surface are included and taken using reflected light to show the bad scratches.
Cover: flat cover, no damage, wear around the opening edge, age browning discolouration mainly along opening edge and cover back.
Labels: clear but some spindle wear
Mint M and Near Mint NM: Looks perfect as new. N and NM is only appropriate for new reissue records and not for vintage vinyl that has been played, regardless of how perfect it may look.
Excellent Plus +EX: Lovely gloss, no visible scratches, scuffs or marks. Has been played but has been handled well and still in great condition.
Excellent EX: Lovely gloss, shows some slight signs of wear, including light trace/hairlines from the inner sleeve, light scuffs or very light marks that you would not expect to hear as surface noise.
Very Good Plus +VG: Shows a few more very light marks than is allowable for EX so not quite EX. These signs of use would be expected to cause some light surface noise but not to detract from the music.
Very Good VG: Shows light scratches and marks and some that you would expect to cause surface noise, especially in soft passages, between tracks and during a song’s intro and ending but not so much as to overpower the music which can still be enjoyed.
Very Good Minus -VG: Shows significant wear and marks that you would expect to cause noticeable surface noise that detracts from the music.
Good G: In the record world, 'Good' is not good! From here on down (Fair, Poor), we're talking about beat-up records lacking much of the original gloss and with many scratches and marks that you would expect to cause very noticeable surface noise and clicks/pops that seriously detract from enjoyment of the music.
